Message Board for Gardeners

Now that we have acquired our wheelbarrow, perhaps a modest shed to store basic tools should be the next item on our list, and anyone with any ideas about where to purchase one--or perhaps how to make one--should let the rest of us know. Speaking of sharing information, we still have not come up with a way for all of us to communicate. E-mail has its limitations, especially since several members do not seem to have ready access to it. Two possible remedies are 1)establishing a phone tree and 2) putting up some kind of bulletin board/message center at the entrance to the garden. Regarding sharing seeds from this year's harvest, there are many websites with information about how to do this. Here are a few:

......and now a few parting words about pests. Early in the season some of our tender crops were devoured by Colorado Potato beetles. There are many ways of getting rid of these bugs, but the least harmful to us and our plants, is to pick them off the plant and throw them into a bucket or can of soapy water. Do not throw them on the ground and do not think squishing them will get rid of them (it will only spread their eggs around). The good news about the potato bugs is the plants seem to rebound after being chomped to bare stumps, and the bugs seem to have a rather short life cycle.
